About Us

Welcome to South Philly Chess! We are a casual-play chess club that meets at Lucky 13 Pub in East Passyunk (1820 S 13th Street) every Wednesday night at 7pm. The club is completely free and open to all skill levels. Our members include new beginners and experienced tournament players. Boards and clocks are provided. Outside of regular club hours, we organize occasional weekend meetups, chess watch-party events, and tournaments. Stop by on Wednesday for an ice cold beer and a game! The night ends when we’re too tired to play. Our only ask is that you support the bar by buying a drink and/or food.

There's no membership or fees required to join the club or play in events unless a specific event, such as a tournament, has an entry fee. Yes, any and all players are welcome. Our club currently has players ranging from complete beginners to active tournament players.

It depends on the venue for the given event. We frequently play at a pub which would only be available to those 21 years and older. If you're unsure, please contact us.

No, all games are casual and unrated, unless otherwise mentioned in the event description in our schedule.

Yes, we provide many sets and clocks but if you have either you are encouraged to bring it just in case we run out.
